FAQs

Is solar power less expensive than traditional electricity from my utility company?

Solar power usually costs less than traditional power that is sold by the utility company.  And it is this increasing cost of traditional power – both in direct cost to the homeowner and the indirect cost of pollution to our planet -- that drives homeowners to search out the alternative power that is available in clean and renewable solar energy.

The amount of money a homeowner will save on a monthly basis will depend not only on the size of your solar energy system, but also on your household electricity usage.  That’s why the professional consultation with our solar experts is so important – so that you are certain that you’re getting the right solar system for your home that will save you a significant amount of money on utility bills on a monthly basis.

How much does solar energy actually cost?

In most cities in the U.S., solar energy costs less that traditional energy that is derived from fossil fuels.  At Sunfinity Solar, we offer two very good options to choose from:

How does solar power work?

The solar panels capture the sun’s energy.  The photovoltaic (PV) cells on the solar panels convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.  There is an inverter that is part of your solar system that converts DC into alternating current (AC) electricity.  Then the electrical panel sends power to your home for lights, appliances, and more.  The utility meter measures the energy you use and the amount you send back to the grid.  When your solar power system produces more power than you need, it feeds the power back into the electricity grid.

What is photovoltaics (solar electricity) or "PV"?

What do we mean by photovoltaics? The word itself helps to explain how photovoltaic (PV) or solar electric technologies work. First used in about 1890, the word has two parts: photo, a stem derived from the Greek phos, which means light, and volt, a measurement unit named for Alessandro Volta (1745-1827), a pioneer in the study of electricity. So, photovoltaics could literally be translated as light-electricity. And that's just what photovoltaic materials and devices do; they convert light energy to electricity, as Edmond Becquerel and others discovered in the 18th Century.

Will I like the look of solar panels on my roof?

The innovative design of the solar panels take on an integrated look on your roof, ultimately becoming part of the overall roof design.  The panels’ high functionality instantly go to work to power your home more efficiently, and with that, actually become part of how your home successfully works on behalf of your family. You’ll find that it’s a look and feel that never goes out of date.

What is the environmental impact of solar energy?

Solar energy is clean energy. In addition to its significant financial benefits, going solar also is great for the environment. When your solar panels generate electricity, they produce zero emissions, which means they do not contribute to climate change or health issues like more traditional sources of energy, such as fossil fuels. They also draw their energy from the sun, an abundant resource that will be available and accessible across the world for the foreseeable future.

Did you know that if 5% of American households go solar, it means that, as a nation, we are taking 7.7 million cars off the road and removing 89.6 million pounds of CO2 from the environment? If you can save money while doing your part to reduce carbon (CO2) emissions, so much the better, and there is nothing to feel guilty about. The environment stands to benefit most of all.

Is my house eligible for solar power?

There are several factors that will determine whether your home is a candidate for solar power.  Some of the most important requirements are these:

The city you live in needs to get a significant amount of sunshine, like sunny cities such as Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Diego.
Your roof design matters.  The best roofs for solar are those that are south-facing with enough space for solar panels.
Solar panels need to be able to retrieve the sun’s rays for most of the day as opposed to shade that might be caused by large trees or some other obstruction to the sun’s rays.

Our solar professionals can conduct a consultation to provide specific information about solar for your home.

How long will my solar panels last?

The manufacturer offers a 25-year standard solar power warranty, which means that power output should not be less than 80% of rated power after 25 years.

How much energy will my solar system produce?

The amount of electricity a solar panel produces is not only proportional to the sun’s intensity, but also depends on three other factors: solar cell efficiency, solar panel size and the amount of sunlight directly hitting the panel. A Sunfinity Solar specialist will work with you to design your solar system, and this will help determine how much energy you use and provide the design for the solar system your home needs to produce this amount of energy.
